Guanhai Zhu (朱 观 海)
(b.1999, Shenzhen, China)

Motion into infinity

Guanhai's art practice is centred around the concept of motion, which he views as a life force - a continuous action liberated from the constraints of reality and linked to the conscious illusory. Motion allows him to escape from physical forms and perceive the world. In his practice, motion is a reaction that turns exploration and perception into vision and method. Under such a spectrum, space and time seem to have elasticity; the past, present, and future become less sequential but can be moved and assembled like building blocks in a Jenga game.

The underlying mechanism of playfulness holds the same significance in Zhu's understanding of motion, both primal impulses.  As his practice is less considered conceptual, he conceals his ideas like clues within each piece, interpreting the works solely as responses to his existence in this world. His working process is more like a journey that evolves rather than an independent series of works; each work is isolated yet traceable."Receive at the moment it appears" is what he anticipates.
